3 short track day
Time laid 11am
Time run 11:22
Temperature 48 wind 2 mph
Weather light rain cloudy
Went to a new park , mainly ball fields
Had set up the track we did in class 25 yds food 15 yards article etc inside 1 of the ball fields
We ran the track at only 22 minutes because there was only 1 other person in the park and they were walking their dog around the outside of the field , and I wanted to work on a distraction
The first few articles he stopped and looked at the other dog before picking up, then the rest he picked up without checking and I made a big deal of it
2nd track
Track laid 1130
Time run 12
Track was right turns around the outside of a different ball field with an short entry over gravel
The challenge was behind the outfield fence was a raised platform with a mix of tiny gravel and sand approximately 50 long ( warm up area I guess)
When we got to that section Zane wanted to go around it , so I held my spot and he kept sniffing and got it and crossed over , as we were getting the article now almost alone in the park except for a man had appeared when I we began the track
He began screaming and waving his arms to the sky going nuts near our van , Zane and I made a wide arc around the outside of the park . I wasn’t sure if we should run track 3 or hi tail it out of the park
After 10 minutes of screaming he disappeared
Track 3
Laid 1140
Run 12:25
Goal was to track a longer distance over gravel and make a turn in gravel
This track also ran around the outside of a ball field with turns to the left but a longer track over gravel to get there
Zane made a beautiful turn in the gravel and the gravel was no problem, I put down 3 articles on this track one after the gravel to celebrate
The next article was hidden under leaves , since we had played so many article games with articles hidden in them
As we approached the ball field to take a right , there was a hidden challenge, birds were in the bush as we were to the right .Zane gave them a hard look and immediately went back to tracking yea!
Again behind this ball field was another raised warm up area this time with artificial turf the same thing happened as before Zane wanted to go around I held my spot but this time it was much quicker getting the scent and going over the warm up area
are you using any food on the tracks? the raised gravel challenges would be a great opportunity to place a hefty food drop 20 yds after the challenge. i know he is a determined little tracker but have you heard the saying 'throw the dog a bone?' .... it might be timely to surprise him with a hefty food drop after some of the odd areas. thank you for your efforts to blog! mary ann
